SOURCE-AWARE SANSKRIT STUDY
How to Read Sanskrit
Reading Sanskrit is easier when it is divided into explicit decisions. The reading workflow moves from the written line through sandhi, morphology and syntax before asking for a natural translation.

Recover words and boundaries
Begin with the exact Devanagari or transliterated line. Mark possible word boundaries, account for sandhi and keep uncertain divisions open until morphology and context provide more evidence.
Parse forms and agreement
Identify finite verbs, participles and nominal endings. Then connect forms that agree in gender, case and number, while checking whether a sentence uses a passive, absolute or other characteristic construction.
Translate in two passes
First write a relation-preserving interpretation that records the grammar. Only then make the English natural, so that fluency does not silently change agent, patient, time or degree of certainty.
